Question: Why isn't my heart rate displayed on my Suunto heart rate
monitor?
If your heart rate is not displayed on your Suunto heart rate monitor, make sure
that: * The Suunto transmitter belt is correctly attached * The electrodes are
moist and clean * The transmitter battery is fully charged * There are no strong
sources of electromagnetic radiation in the vicinity. * Possible interference
sources: high voltage power lines, television sets and automobile engines.
Can I use my Suunto heart rate belt with the gym equipment?
The HR belts that come with Suunto t1 work with the standard gym equipment due
to the analog data transmission. Concept2 rowers equipped with a PM4 Performance
Monitor are directly compatible with Suunto ANT belts that come with Suunto t3,
t4 and t6.
What is the Suunto EPOC feature?
Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption, a measure for the amount of Oxygen that
the body needs to recover from physical exertion. Describes the accumulating
cardio "oxygen debt" during exercise.
How much do I need to train so that the t3/t4 updates my activity class?
Suunto t3 and t4 update your activity class automatically. In order for the
heart rate monitor to update the activity class you need to: - Train at least 7
days at the current activity class - Train actively enough (activity class
update is based on the last four weeks' training frequency) - The Training
Effect(TE) of the training sessions needs to be high enough (accumulated EPOC
value per week high enough) After identifying your first activity class
manually, Suunto t3 and t4 will suggest automatically you to update your
activity class up or down based on your training. (Please note that the
2006-2007 models of Suunto t3 and t4 only update the activity class upwards. If
you have trained less than before you can decrease the activity class manually
on them.)
Can I use the HR belt while swimming to measure my HR?
There are three different types of HR belts that can be used with different HR
monitors. The analog HR belt, which works with analog transmission technique,
will show your HR also while in the water. The conductivity of the signal is not
as good in the water as on dry land, but you are still able to get HR readings
on your watch. This type of belt is used with the following HR monitors: Advizor,
Metron, X3HR, X6HR, X6HRM, X6HRT and t1.
The ANT HR belt uses radiofrequencies to transmit the HR signal to the HR
monitor. Even though both the Suunto HR monitors using this transmission
technique and the ANT transmitter belt are water-resistant, the radio signal
does not carry in water, which makes the communication between HR monitor and
the ANT transmitter belt impossible. This type of HR belt is used with the
following HR monitors: Suunto t3, t4 and t6.
The third type of HR belt is the Memory belt (and also the discontinued SmartBelt).
This HR belt also uses the ANT transmission technique but contains an internal
memory chip and is able to record the HR in the belt itself without any HR
monitor on you wrist. That's why the Memory belt can be used also in water to
record the HR, and the recorded HR data can then later on be transfered to the
Training Manager PC software. In addition to being able to record the HR, the
Memory belt can also be used as a HR transmitter while not in water. The
Memory belt can be paired with all ANT compatible HR monitors (Suunto t3,t4,t6)
and used instead of the regular ANT HR belt.
How to pair Foot POD with my t6/t4/t3?
To pair your Foot POD with your Suunto heart rate monitor: 1. In your Suunto t3
or Suunto t4, go to Training mode settings and select: > Pair a POD and then
Foot.. > In your Suunto t6, go to the Training menu and select:POD and then FOOT
3. Your Suunto t3 or t4 will display “Paired” or, if pairing failed, return to
the
Pair a POD menu.
Your Suunto t6 will display either ‘”PAIRING COMPLETE” or, if pairing failed
“NO DEVICES FOUND” within 30 seconds.
4. If pairing fails, make sure that there are no active ANT transmitters such as
HR belts nearby and repeat steps 2-3
I can’t get a GPS fix, what should I do?
Normally, the first fix can take almost 7 minutes although subsequent fixes will
be much faster. > When acquiring a GPS fix: * Make sure you have clear
visibility to the sky. * Keep your position; don't move the instrument until you
get the fix. * Place the instrument on a level surface. * Don't move the
instrument until you get the fix. * You can monitor the progress by changing the
display to position mode after starting GPS. You'll be able to see how many
satellites are visible (0/8) and how many have fixed (2/8). You can also view
how many seconds have elapsed by pushing the Start button. * Make sure that the
battery is fully charged before starting; the GPS is the first component shut
down when the battery is low.
The first gps fix has now been completed and the next time you wish to use the
gps you will be able to connect faster to the satelites in your area.
This first fix is effective for a 200km radius - if you travel further than that
you should perform the first fix again in your new location. If these ideas do
not help, the instrument should be brought in for service.
Does the heart rate affect the EPOC value?
Yes. The higher the heart rate in relation to the maximum heart rate, the higher
the EPOC. However, EPOC can increase more rapidly or more slowly with the same
heart rate; it all depends on your own maximum heart rate.
I'm having problems connecting my t3/t4 to Training Manager Lite using the
PC POD. How can I make the connection work?
First of all please check that the USB drivers are correctly installed. There
should be two of them:
Suunto USB Serial Port under Port COM & LPT and Suunto Sports Device under USB
controllers. If there is a yellow exclamation or question mark beside the driver
name it means that the USB drivers need to be updated. In this case please
download the latest drivers from our website www.suunto.com - Download Center
and install them on your PC.
If the USB drivers are correctly installed please check the following things
while trying to connect the t3/t4 to your PC:
- the watch display should point at the PC POD - next to the watch (< 30 cm)
there shouldn't be any metal objects - next to the PC POD (< 30 cm) there
shouldn't be metal objects except for the pc - between the watch and the PC POD
there shouldn't be metal objects - the distance between the watch and the PC POD
is maximum 1m
Can I pair multiple bike PODs with my Suunto t3, t4, t6?
Yes! You can pair any POD under any name of Speed and Distance PODs. You can
pair up to three Speed & Distance PODs and one Heartrate belt (except for the
first Suunto t6 which have been made – there you need a software update which
you will get for free at one of the Suunto’s service center).
Example: you can pair one Suunto wristop (t3, t4 or t6) to use a HR belt, GPS
POD, and two different bike PODs (to be mounted on and calibrated for different
bikes!)
The GPS speed measurement of is not accurate. Overall it gives a
relatively logical speed, but at some points the speed is way too high. What do
I do wrong, or is the wristop computer failing?
The speed measurement depends on the GPS accuracy and if there are excessive
tips these are most likely caused by a bad fix. This can happen when the unit
temporarily loses contact with one or several satellites. Some satellites may
have a greater impact on the fix than others, this depends very much on the
satellite's position. When the view is obstructed and the unit loses contact
with a satellite, the position error may be up to a hundred meters.
